Notes: Fred was born at Polegate on 21 Apr 1889. It is not known what he was doing for a living in his early working life at this stage. On 1 Aug 1914 he married Hilda Evelyn Sewell in London and they had two sons, Frederick Clifford born 2 Dec 1918 and Cyril James born 28 Jun 1920. WW1 photographs show Fred initially as a private in the Royal Army Service Corps and later as a sergeant in the Royal Artillery. This would make sense as many RASC drivers of supply wagons were seconded to the Royal Artillery to haul the horse drawn guns.
It is understood that Fred and Hilda later spent some time in New Zealand, possibly as a driver in the household of one of the Governor Generals but this has yet to be confimed. Fred died in 1969 and Hilda on 22 Mar 1978.
