Notes: Florence, usually known as May, was born at Polegate on 18 Apr 1887. In the late 1890s when her parents separated and her mother had to go out to work as a laundress to make ends meet. She assisted with the care of the younger members of the family. After a while this proved to be a bit too much for here and she went to stay with her maternal grandmother, Annie Martin. Sometime after 1901 she went into service in Ealing where she met Albert William Eldridge, a farrier.
May and Bert were married on 22 Dec 1906 and initially lived at South Acton but later moved back to Ealing where they spent the remainder of her married life. They had three daughters, Winifred Helen born 3 Mar 1907, Phyllis May born 27 Dec 1910 and Joan Lois born 13 Jun 1920. During WW1 Bert served with the Royal Engineers and afterwards became an Industrial blacksmith . He died on 23 Oct 1958. May continued to live at Ealing until the last years of her life when she moved to Hungerford to live with her daughter Winifred and later went into residential care. She eventually passed away on26 Jan 1990 aged 102.
