Notes: Robert Harman was born in 1622 at East Grinstead the eldest son of George and Elizabeth Harman. He married Judith Jordan on 26th May 1645 at East Grinstead at the age of twenty-three. In the following year 1646 their first child was born - a girl named after her mother Judith, followed by their first son in 1648 who was named after his grandfather George Harman. Robert and Judith's family continued to grow with the birth of John in 1653, Mary in 1655, Katherine in 1657, and twins Ann and Elizabeth in 1658. Katherine was to die within a month of her birth and after the death of Elizabeth in 1658 another Elizabeth was born in 1660 and christened on 10th January 1661. At the age of twenty-two this Elizabeth had a baseborn child - girl who she named after herself. In 1669 Robert and Judith had there last child Dorothy who was to marry an Anthony Ellis on 19th April 1696 at East Grinstead at the age of twenty-seven. Further research revealed there was a stillborn child buried in 25 October 1658 named Ann in the parish records. So it would appear Robert and Judith lost both the twins. In 1670 Robert’s mother Elizabeth died and was buried at East Grinstead on 14th February. Elizabeth was aged 73 at the time of her death. George her husband was 70 and was to live another 20 years. Robert and Judith continued to farm with his father George living with then. Their daughter Mary died at the age of 20 being buried on 15th October 1675, as a poor maid. Four years after in 1679 Robert Harman died. Records state that he was buried poor. Robert was buried on the 26th June 1679 after being married for 34 years to Judith. George his father was still alive at the age of seventy-nine. From his marriage to Elizabeth they had a family of seven. Now at the age of seventy-nine he had lost his wife and nearly all of his children. Judith was to live on until 1704 when she died at East Grinstead aged 82.
