Notes: Lewis was not a member of this family but in later years when Lewis and his family were moving around England in his profession as an Estate Manager it appears that they made Hollington their home base and the families were very close. Both of Lewis’s parents had died by 1870 and it appears that William Lutener and Mary acted in the role of grandparents to their family.

Lewis was born in the Jun Qtr of 1845 at Danehill and was the only son of William Lutener’s elder brother George (1813-1862) a cordwainer (shoemaker) and Mary Goord. They lived at Christopher Fields in Danehill and Lewis followed his father into the shoemaking business After his father’s death in 1862 he farmed the 49 acres of Christopher Fields until 1872 when he relinquished the lease after the property had been in the Langridge family for over two hundred years. He has left his mark there however as his initials “LL” are inlaid in a brick design in the front wall of the property that he built shortly before his departure.

In the meantime he had married Laura Elizabeth Newnham of Danehill in the Jun Qtr of 1869 at Hollington. Their two eldest children were born while they were still at Christopher Fields and the next three at Horsted Keynes between 1873 and 1877. In the 1881 census Lewis is a Farm Bailiff living at Frog Farm, Petworth, Sussex and a daughter was born there in 1879. From there it appears that they moved to Crimplesham in Norfolk where another son was born in 1885 The 1891 census finds them at Banstead in Surrey and the 1901 at Amersham in Bucks still in the estate management business. Their youngest son was born at Hollington in 1896.
